His extensive service on grant panels and board development committees allows him to partner directly with nonprofits to craft compelling brand narratives, elevate digital marketing, and build resilient fundraising strategies.

Onnie “J.R.” Watson
Onnie Watson Jr. is a strategic communicator, nonprofit administrator, and researcher based in Montgomery County, Maryland. With a career centered on brand strategy, community engagement, and resource optimization, Onnie specializes in bridging data-driven insight with compelling storytelling.
Over the course of his career in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. cultural sectors, Onnie has led high-impact marketing and sales strategies, managed multi-million-dollar revenue portfolios, and directed guest experience teams for institutions such as Ford’s Theatre Society and Imagination Stage. His leadership extends deep into the local community, serving as Secretary of the Board Trustee and Development Committee Chair for the BlackRock Center for the Arts and evaluating funding proposals as a grant panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council.
Beyond his executive and advisory work in the nonprofit sector, Onnie leverages a background in research and database administration to conduct meticulous mineral rights analysis. As the founder of JR Creative & Capital Solutions, LLC, he combines his expertise in mission-driven branding, fundraising, and analytical research to help organizations and individuals navigate complex strategies with clarity and purpose.
Onnie holds a Master of Arts in Arts Management from American University and dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in History and Theatre from Fairmont State University.
